Sawt al-Aghwar (Jordan Valley Voice), a community-based interactive radio that transmits online, via satellite (Nilesat email@example.com Degrees West, Down Link Frequency 12034 MHZ, Polarization: Horizontal), and shortly on FM. Aghwar.fm is concerned with the life-felt issues of Jordan Valley area citizens in Jordan, especially Deir Alla disctrict. Staff and volunteers are of local citizens (including handicapped people) who produce and air purely local content with focus on agriculture, environment, women and the youth. The radio has a local advisory board that facilitates its work with local community and the state, and advocates for community media.
Sawt al-Aghwar is part of The Advocacy and Support for Community Radio in the Arab Region (Aswatona – Our Voices) – a project to strengthen the concept of community media by providing means of communication to the Arabs through local staff and volunteers. The project is launched by the Amman-based Community Media Network, and funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
